Review - 2 in 1 magnetic USB data cable

Disclosure - I purchased this product at a discounted rate for the purpose of an unbiased review.

I seem to be very tough on charging cables, they never last long with me around, so I was pleased when I had the opportunity to review this USB data cable.

2 in 1 Metal Magnetic Data Cable

Product description

  • 2 in 1 magnetic usb charging cable, comes with 1 micro usb adapter and 1 lightning adapter for Android and Apple smartphones and tablets with standard charging and data transfer/sync
Magnetic quick connect to USB cable, one handed operation is convenient and flexible.
It is a simple yet perfect solution to prevent frayed charging cables, tripping over cable resulting in smashed phones, pointless fiddling to plug in cable in the dark, and more.
3.3ft in length for better use.
Ideal for car use easy and safe.

As you probably guessed from the product description, this is no ordinary USB cable. This is a 2 in 1 cable as it comes with two removable attachments - one for Apple devices and one for Android devices. This means that I can use the same cable for both my iPad and my phone so there's no constantly swapping of cables. The small attachments can be kept in the devices charger slot so that there's no danger of losing them, then you just simply place the cable over the attachment and it snaps into place magnetically.

I have very poor hand grip and dexterity and I was worried that I'd find using this cable a bit fiddly - but it's actually a lot easier for me than using a normal cable. Once the attachment is in place in your device it is quick and easy to attach the cable - even I can do it with just one hand.

The only thing I do find difficult is taking the attachment out of the device, but you rarely need to do this and someone with normal hand strength and dexterity probably wouldn't have a problem.

Charging my iPad using the 'lightning' compatible attachment with the cable

As mentioned at the beginning of this review, I am very tough on charging cables, they rarely last long. They either bend and fray at the part that attaches to the device, or they just stop working for no apparent reason. So far I have had no problems with this one, so it seems quite durable and hard wearing.

The cable connector does get pretty hot while charging, which is a worry, so I don't leave it on overnight or leave it unattended. To be honest though I don't leave any chargers unattended, especially with my iPad, as they all seem to get quite hot. My anxiety problems do make me a bit paranoid about things like this though, so I may be worrying more than necessary.

The charging time is good, for both my iPad and my android phone. I haven't used it to sync data, as this isn't something I normally do, so I can't comment on that.

Overall I'm quite happy with the performance of this product and give it four stars.
